10 Secrets To Success

Most days when I get into the office, I take 5-10 minutes to peruse some financial publications. It's not that I'm looking for stories so that I can trade the news, but instead I'm keeping an eye on anything that stands out as a good read.

Today when I was looking through Investor’s Business Daily, I came across "IBD's 10 Secrets to Success." These 10 secrets could be applied to your success as a trader, but more importantly they could be applied to ensure success in your personal life. I thought I would share these 10 tips with you as they made me stop and think about my own life.

1) How You Think Is Everything - Always be positive. Think success, not failure. Beware of a negative environment.

2) Decide Upon Your True Dreams & Goals - Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.

3) Take Action - Goals are nothing without action. Don't be afraid to get started. Just do it.

4) Never Stop Learning - Go back to school or read books. Get training and acquire skills.

5) Be Persistent & Work Hard - Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.

6) Learn To Analyze Details - Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes.

7) Focus Your Time & Money - Don't let other people or things distract you.

8) Don't Be Afraid To Innovate; Be Different - Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity.

9) Deal & Communicate With People Effectively - No person is an island. Learn to understand and motivate others.

10) Be Honest & Dependable; Take Responsibility - Otherwise, Nos. 1-9 won't matter.

I hope that by applying some of these secrets to your life, you will have a growing brokerage account and a joyous personal life.

  1. Dear All at Market Club,

I do enjoy your tips and I do like all ten of the above......because they mirror my own values.

Having been on the 'Ferris' wheel of life, I can now say from experience, that those ten rules of advise, if violated, will only bring you hassles and hardship.

Thanks for all your good work

    Best wishes

    John

  2. Hi Lindsay, thank you for that.

I just wanted to share from my trading life. In my experience point no 1 is not really applicable in real life.
If you are talking and thinking positively in your head but you are feeling bad in your heart, solar plexus or tummy area it won't do anything. Therefore you need to explore the feeling bad part and work every day on making yourself feel a little better and a little better and a little better until you are feeling good whilst you are working on your thoughts and constructive language.

So for example what I used to say when I was still on my journey of making it as a trader, I would say "I am now in the process of becoming a consistently profitable successful trader! And I will achieve that by doing ____ today"

This was something that this damning voice in the back of my head would finally agree with and I would feel much better about myself because suddenly I could see again that I will eventually make it.

    Hope that helps
