Here's A Good Way To Begin The Week

How did you do the second quarter? Did you make money or did you lose money?

Well, I'm happy to report that the Internet Portfolio put in a very good performance in a very flat market. The portfolio showed a return of 5.67% which I think you'll agree is an excellent return for Q2.

The Internet Portfolio is comprised of the following five stocks:

Here's the breakdown of how the portfolio did in each stock for Q2.

Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) produced a loss of $2.80 a share for a total dollar loss of $266. Based on trading 95 shares.

Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) had a gain of $6.35 a share which in turn produced a dollar gain of $552.45. Based on trading 87 shares.

Yelp Inc. (NYSE:YELP) was the big winner for the quarter producing a gain of $9.04 a share which produced a profit of $3127.84. Based on trading 346 shares.

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) was choppy during the quarter and produced nothing but losing trades. This, in turn, produced a loss of $3.92 for every share traded. The loss for the quarter was $1474. Based on trading 300 shares.

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) performed very well in Q2 and gave made a profit of $41.47 a share. The overall profit was $580.58. Based on trading 14 shares.

Just a quick word on how I determined how many shares were purchased in each stock. It depends on the value of the stock. I split $50,000 up into five $10,000 units, I then divide the stock price into $10,000 which gives me the number of shares I can trade. I do this at the beginning of each year. As you can see a stock like Yelp, which trades around $30 a share presently allows you to buy many more shares than the stock like Amazon, which is trading closer to $700. The beauty of this, of course, is that you totally diversified and balanced with the same dollar amount in each stock. In other words, you're not betting the farm on any one stock.

I invite you to follow the Internet Portfolio every day as we show you exactly where to get in and get out. It could not be easier, simpler or more direct than this. You can check out the Internet portfolio right here and see how well this portfolio has performed in previous years.

Stay focused and disciplined.

Every success with MarketClub,

  1. Jermy,

For me, there seems to be a bit of misleading in declaring the rules of entry and exit of long position in your Internet Portfolio. I may be wrong (may be right toot!)
The problem, I think, is in the wrongly placed following partial sentence:
"provided that the M is still in place and the trend is positive".
    Your rules says
"To go long this portfolio: If the last monthly Trade Triangle is GREEN , this indicates that the major trend is UP for that stock. You would use the initial M as an entry point. You would then use the next w as an exit point. You would only reenter a long position if and when a M kicked in. You would then use the next M as an exit point, provided that the M is still in place and the trend is positive."

I feel it would be much more clear to reader if it says as:
"To go long this portfolio: If the last monthly Trade Triangle is GREEN , this indicates that the major trend is UP for that stock. You would use the initial M as an entry point. You would then use the next W as an exit point. You would only reenter a long position if and when a W kicked in, provided that the M is still in place and the trend is positive. You would then use the next W as an exit point,
Same is the issue in the declaration of condition for short position.

  2. Is this portfolio in a simulated currency?

How much did you invest in cold hard cash?

Sounds like you are giving us simulated account results where there is no risk. How much were your commissions and fees?

    1. Hi Marion,

You are correct, this is a simulated portfolio based on following MarketClub's Trade Triangles and the suggested method to use them.

Here's a link that will let you see all of the postings about the portfolio.

      Best,

  3. Indeed good performance!
But, where did you announce earlier you are holding this Internet portfolio?
Are those cherry picked at the end of Q2 ?
And one more thing. How did it come to be odd lots each one?
    -Chandra

    1. Hi Chandra,

We announced the formation of this portfolio 4/30/2014 and have been tracking ever since. The stocks have remained the same for the entirety.

Here's a link that will let you see all of the postings about the portfolio.

The odd lots are from the varying prices of each stock and how many shares can be bought by the designated money available.

      Best,
      Jeremy
