Forex Fundamentals: The Other Side Of The Coin

Many of you know from reading the Trader's Blog that we often talk about, and advocate, technical trading. Today's guest blogger, Georgia Anderson of GAFNN.com, also looks at "the other side of the coin," fundamental analysis, but she uses it in a way that is almost technical.

In this post, Georgia is going to give us her perspective on forex and fundamental analysis by way of an input-output matrix.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By doing this for all the important factors, one can get an input-output matrix that well describes the future potential market movements. People fantasize about what it must be like to be a full-time trader. The picture is of a relaxed person sitting in a lounge chair on the foredeck of an expensive yacht docked in Newport Beach or somewhere in the Mediterranean. Armed with a laptop, a cell phone and a large pitcher of rum and chilled grapefruit, the trader (who looks remarkably like a buffed version of you) scans a graph that pops up on the screen. The trader then activates the cell phone and places an order. The cell phone is snapped shut followed by the laptop. The trader stands up, stretches and dives off the side of the yacht into clear warm water. Come to think of it, the yacht is in anchored in a beautiful inlet off Tortola. The water is warmer there.

The implications are clear: easy money, independence and unlimited wealth.

Trading the Forex markets is risky business, make no mistake about it.  As a trader, if you do not pay attention to risk first and foremost, you will lose, plain and simple.  There are at least two key aspects to managing risk.  One is the placement of stops and the management of the trade as it unfolds, and the other is the position size of the trade relative to the trader's account size.  If either one of those is not handled properly, the trader will lose in the end.

The good news is that both can be managed to the trader’s advantage resulting in minimizing losses and providing the opportunity for great profits.
