The Beat Goes On – August Recap

Today marks the last day of trading for the month of August and I have to say, it has been quite a month. With all the news about ISIS, the Ukraine and Hamas and Israel, you would think the world was coming to an end. Well, don't tell that to the stock market! It made all-time highs and put in a very solid month of returns in August.

Traditionally August has always been a rather slow month, as many traders and investors take off on vacation to spend time with family members and loved ones. This August was no different as trading volume slowed, but the market continued its upward trend.

The big winner as far as the indexes are concerned is the NASDAQ (NASDAQ:COMP), which is presently trading approximately 4.61% higher for the month. Closely behind the NASDAQ is the S&P 500 (CME:SP500), which is up 3.62% as of midday Eastern Standard Time. The DOW (INDEX:DJI), not to be out done, reversed its earlier weakness and rallied into positive territory for the month and is presently up 3.12%. Continue reading "The Beat Goes On – August Recap"

Are You Prepared For The 'Follow-Up' Crash?

A "follow-up" market crash could be coming.

I don't mean to scare you, but it's only a matter of time...

The past two happened like clockwork -- seven years apart. One happened just before 2001, after the dot-com burst. The other came with a vengeance in 2008, right after the housing collapse.

It's getting close to another seven years... so what about this time?

Are we headed for a "follow-up" market crash?

The very idea of losing more than half of your invested wealth in a market downturn is daunting.

Market analysts claim to know exactly where the market is going, and act like they know exactly when to buy or sell stocks. But how many analysts do you remember saying months before the 2008 financial crisis that the market was going to go down by 57%? Can you name one? Proceed With Caution

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and co-creator of MarketClub, with your video update for Friday, the 25th of April.

There's no question about it, these markets are in turmoil not knowing what to do. On one hand, the NASDAQ is showing a negative trend based on Trade Triangle technology, and the DOW and the S&P 500 are indicating a sideways trend at best.

Today I'm going to be looking at key areas to watch for in these markets and what to do if and when these levels are broken.

I still believe that the deal breaker in this whole equation is going to be what's happening in the Ukraine. With Putin flexing his muscles on the global stage and no one willing to stand up to him, he knows that he is going to win the game he is playing. Just yesterday, he indicated that sanctions mean nothing to him. That is the only weapon the west has or is willing to use against Russian domination of Europe. Like it or not, Putin’s aggression is going to cast a pall over all of Europe and a slowdown in business and the nascent recovery that was beginning to take place there. Will These Obstacles Slow The Market's Bullish Trend?

The bellwether SP 500 traded completely inside of last Monday's trading range from Tuesday through Thursday of last week, indicating near-term investor indecision, before staging a tentative move to new all-time highs on Friday. Friday's move to new highs, despite a sharp downward revision in Q4 2014 GDP and amid worries about Russian intervention in Ukraine, was an impressive show of bullish investor conviction and is characteristic of a market that wants to go higher.
