How did you do the second quarter? Did you make money or did you lose money?<\/p>\n

Well, I'm happy to report that the Internet Portfolio<\/a> put in a very good performance in a very flat market. The portfolio showed a return of 5.67% which I think you'll agree is an excellent return for Q2.<\/p>\n

The Internet Portfolio is comprised of the following five stocks: <\/p>\n

Here's the breakdown of how the portfolio did in each stock for Q2.<\/p>\n

Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB)<\/a><\/strong> produced a loss of $2.80 a share for a total dollar loss of $266. Based on trading 95 shares.<\/p>\n

Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX)<\/a><\/strong> had a gain of $6.35 a share which in turn produced a dollar gain of $552.45. Based on trading 87 shares.<\/p>\n

Yelp Inc. (NYSE:YELP)<\/a><\/strong> was the big winner for the quarter producing a gain of $9.04 a share which produced a profit of $3127.84. Based on trading 346 shares.<\/p>\n

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO)<\/a><\/strong> was choppy during the quarter and produced nothing but losing trades. This, in turn, produced a loss of $3.92 for every share traded. The loss for the quarter was $1474. Based on trading 300 shares.<\/p>\n

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)<\/a><\/strong> performed very well in Q2 and gave made a profit of $41.47 a share. The overall profit was $580.58. Based on trading 14 shares.<\/p>\n

Just a quick word on how I determined how many shares were purchased in each stock. It depends on the value of the stock. I split $50,000 up into five $10,000 units, I then divide the stock price into $10,000 which gives me the number of shares I can trade. I do this at the beginning of each year. As you can see a stock like Yelp, which trades around $30 a share presently allows you to buy many more shares than the stock like Amazon, which is trading closer to $700. The beauty of this, of course, is that you totally diversified and balanced with the same dollar amount in each stock. In other words, you're not betting the farm on any one stock.<\/p>\n
