The stock market has started off the new trading week with gains as Wall Street readies for the start of the third-quarter earnings season, awaits more news from the Federal Reserve and watches politics as the presidential election comes down the final stretch.<\/p>\n

The reporting season kicks off on Tuesday with quarterly results from aluminum maker Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:AA)<\/a><\/strong> and more importantly on Friday with reports from the three major banks Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC)<\/a><\/strong>, Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C)<\/strong> and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
