{"id":58515,"date":"2023-04-30T06:16:48","date_gmt":"2023-04-30T10:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ino.com\/blog\/?p=58515"},"modified":"2023-05-01T12:03:49","modified_gmt":"2023-05-01T16:03:49","slug":"3-beverage-stocks-that-could-win-on-bud-lights-bad-publicity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwtest.ino.com\/blog\/2023\/04\/3-beverage-stocks-that-could-win-on-bud-lights-bad-publicity\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Beverage Stocks that Could Win on Bud Light's Bad Publicity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Editor\u2019s Note: In this piece, we look at how Bud Light\u2019s self-inflicted pain could become its rivals\u2019 gain.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Bud Light\u2019s support for diversity and inclusivity backfired when an <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/CqgTftujqZc\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=5fdc6160-3697-46da-b852-b68c8d8649d3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram video<\/a> by trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney featuring herself drinking a Bud Light as part of an ad campaign by the brand to celebrate the end of March Madness and promote a sweepstakes contest for the company drew flak from some its outspoken conservative fans.<\/p>\n<p>With Mulvaney sharing a photo of a commemorative Bud Light can with her face on it celebrating her \"365 days of girlhood\" series on TikTok documenting her gender transition, affiliate brands such as Bud Light and Maybelline have become a target of the ire of conservatives over transgender rights.<\/p>\n<p>The vocal and explicit outrage ranged from calls to boycott the brand, with rapper-singer Kid Rock going as far as <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CqmUBDegYwN\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=49c0ace5-3849-4dde-a8da-0eaec16a2376\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shooting up cases of Bud Light<\/a> with an automatic rifle while wearing a MAGA hat, to death threats to <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/quotes.ino.com\/charting\/?s=NYSE_BUD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anheuser-Busch InBev SA\/NV (BUD)<\/a> marketing executives who supervised the campaign with Dylan Mulvaney.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-widget-1089215\"><\/div>\n<p>This has prompted Alissa Heinerscheid, vice president of marketing for Bud Light, and her boss, Daniel Blake, Budweiser's group vice president for marketing, to take a <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/bud-light-dylan-mulvaney-transgender-anheuser-busch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leave of absence.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to pacify its irked consumers and restore their images, Bud Light\u2019s sister brands have pivoted away from their inclusive messaging. On April 14, Budweiser released an <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/i\/status\/1646958880654516226\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ad<\/a> featuring its signature Clydesdale horse mascot to invoke patriotic sentiments in its patrons.<\/p>\n<p>According to the experts, changing demographics suggest that Bud Light\u2019s inclusive ad campaigns make good sense in the long run and are expected to keep the brand in what, according to BUD\u2019s CEO, is \u201cthe business of bringing people together over a beer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the soup the brand has landed in might warm up the prospects of other beverage stocks. While the \u201cwoke-free\u201d beer being brewed by \u201cConservative Dad\u201d may not make the cut, here are some contenders to look out for.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Ambev S.A. (ABEV)<\/h3>\n<p><a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/quotes.ino.com\/charting\/?s=NYSE_ABEV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ambev S.A. (ABEV)<\/a>, a subsidiary of Interbrew International BVT, is a beverage company headquartered in Sao Paolo, Brazil, that distributes and sells beer, carbonated soft drinks (CSDs), and other non-alcoholic and non-carbonated (NANC) beverages across the Americas. <\/p>\n<p>The company operates through three geographical segments: Latin America North; Latin America South; and Canada. <\/p>\n<p>On April 25, ABEV\u2019s Board of Directors approved and homologated the issuance of new common shares as a result of the exercise, by certain beneficiaries, of <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/s\/stockoption.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stock options<\/a>, within the scope of the Company\u2019s Stock Option Plan. This reflects the investors\u2019 confidence in the company\u2019s prospects.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a challenging macroeconomic environment, consistent execution of its platform model, coupled with commercial momentum in its home market in Brazil, helped ABEV ensure a top-line growth of 19.8% year-over-year and a 17.1% year-over-year consolidated growth in normalized EBITDA in the fiscal year 2022.<\/p>\n<h3>Constellation Brands, Inc. (STZ)<\/h3>\n<p><a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/quotes.ino.com\/charting\/?s=NYSE_STZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Constellation Brands, Inc. (STZ)<\/a>is an international beverage and alcohol company operating in the United States, Mexico, New Zealand, and Italy. Its segments include Beer; Wine and Spirits; and Canopy.<\/p>\n<p>The beer brands sold by the company include Modelo Especial, Corona Premier, and Victoria, Pacifico, while its portfolio of Cook\u2019s California Champagne, Mount Veeder, My Favorite Neighbor, Casa Noble, Mi CAMPO, Kim Crawford, Ruffino, Robert Mondavi Winery, Copper &amp; Kings, and others.<\/p>\n<p>For the fiscal year ending February 28, 2023, STZ outperformed its net sales and operating income growth outlook. The company\u2019s top line grew by 7% year-over-year to a record $9.45 billion, while its operating income increased by 22% year-over-year to $2.84 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Robust financial performance has enabled STZ to exceed its goal of returning $5 billion to its shareholders in the form of repurchases and dividends. <\/p>\n<p>With <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/cheers-spirits-like-gin-vodka-overtake-beers-us-market-share-2023-02-09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spirits, such as gin and vodka, overtaking beer\u2019s U.S. market share<\/a>, riding on the momentum of high-end cocktail trends, the company expects to build on its momentum and deliver value to its shareholders in the fiscal year 2024 as well.<\/p>\n<h3>Molson Coors Beverage Company (TAP)<\/h3>\n<p><a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/quotes.ino.com\/charting\/?s=NYSE_TAP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Molson Coors Beverage Company (TAP)<\/a>is a holding company that operates through two segments: Americas and EMEA&amp;APAC.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-widget-1089216\"><\/div>\n<p>The Americas segment consists of the production, marketing, and sales of its brands and other owned and licensed brands in the United States, Canada, and various countries in the Caribbean, Latin, and South America. <\/p>\n<p>The EMEA&amp;APAC segment consists of the production, marketing, and sales of its primary brands as well as other owned and licensed brands in various European countries and certain countries within the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>For the fiscal year that ended December 31, 2022, TAP\u2019s net sales increased by 4.1% year-over-year, primarily due to positive net pricing and favorable sales mix.
