The Fed\u2019s decision on raising interest rates at the next FOMC meeting scheduled on September 19-20, 2023, could be a significant determinant of the market movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">August\u2019s CPI figures are important, especially after a surprising rise in prices in July, with the headline CPI rising<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/08\/10\/economy\/cpi-inflation-july\/index.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3.2% year-over-year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the first acceleration in more than twelve months. Towards the end of last month, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that inflation is still too high and could require<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/08\/25\/fed-chair-powell-calls-inflation-too-high-and-warns-that-we-are-prepared-to-raise-rates-further.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">additional interest rate increases<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, he noted that policymakers would carefully proceed as they assess the incoming data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A rise in energy prices is expected to have driven the increase in headline inflation last month. Economists forecast headline inflation to rise<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/inflation-iphones-and-looming-auto-strikes-what-to-know-this-week-140049476.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3.6% year-over-year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and 0.6% sequentially in August. Federal Reserve governor Christopher Waller said he currently<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/feds-waller-recent-data-gives-space-decide-next-rate-move-2023-09-05\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sees nothing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that would force the Fed to raise the short-term borrowing rates again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an interview with CNBC,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/09\/05\/fed-governor-waller-agrees-the-central-bank-can-proceed-carefully-on-interest-rates.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cThe biggest thing is just inflation.
