Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Monday, the 29th of July.
It Is All About Commerce, That Is What Makes America Strong
Over the weekend I stopped at Walmart (NYSE:WMT), as I needed to purchase some Allen wrenches to make some adjustments to my new bicycle. I was standing in Walmart next to where they sell guns and I ran into Dave and Joe, two regular, everyday Americans. Dave, a Walmart employee, was telling Joe that he could only buy three boxes of ammo when they had it in stock. With that comment, I decided to ask him why was Walmart, one of the largest retailers in the country, restricting purchases of ammo to everyday Americans?
The answer I got was that there is a shortage of ammo in America. Dave repeated that Walmart cannot get enough supply because Homeland Security has been buying vast amounts of ammo for what reason Dave did not know. Here is the point that I am making, by restricting Walmart and other companies, you're really not helping the employment picture. Especially when it's an artificial shortage brought on by the administration.
Now before I go any further, I just want to say that I do not own a gun, so I have no axe to grind on that front. But I do have an axe to grind with the administration that seems to go against everything that's in the Constitution. Mainly, the right to bear arms. The government is creating problems for business and employment when it steps in-between demand and supply chains that work efficiently when left alone. If history has taught us anything it is this, when you have any kind of restrictions or controls come into a free market, they never ever work. The free market ,with all its imperfections, is still more efficient and works better when it's left alone, than any government policy the world has ever seen.
I'm all for the Constitution and what made America great and I thank God every day that this great country has allowed me to be successful. What I see now is Government intervention into business and other parts of our lives that will create major problems for this country and in turn, for the market. If you'd like to agree or disagree with my comments, I would love to hear from you as long as the replies are clean and can be published on our blog.
P.S. Apple is on the move today, so check out my in-depth analysis of this stock that I created earlier this month.

This is very old news, and I've heard that the Homeland Security rumor is just that, a rumor. It is probably more supply and demand brought on by the administration. They (Obama's admin) just don't get it; they're clueless.
I think that's the only "supply and demand" this administration has believed in.
Go to one of your local "gun shows". I have been to two gun shows in the past year and there is plenty of ammo, although you may pay a little more for it, than you would at Walmart .
Try to find some name brand .22lr ammo for 'reasonable' prices. Can't find any here, online or not. Every other caliber is selling for twice where it was pre-Obama.
I was just at my local range last weekend, and inquired about buying some 380 ammo. The guy said he was unable to sell it to me "to go", but I could buy it before going onto the range and not shoot it if I wanted. WTF? I told him that made no sense - he said there's a shortage and they limit how much anyone can buy at one time to keep stock on hand. This was in the burbs of Atlanta....
Checking production will not show the purchaser, however, as previously stated, the government contracts documenting purchases totaling 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition are available on line.
The Federal government is both preparing for civil war and choking off ammunition to those likely to oppose it. This also includes rural police departments who cannot get ammunition, either. I know this for a fact, as I work with a police chief in rural Missouri. The HSA will be backed up with weaponized drones, supplied with the location of anyone they wish to target, courtesy of the NSA super data base
Cheers
Thank you for your feedback. The point of the posting was not so much about ammo which really was a metaphor for the fact that our freedoms in this country are getting chipped away little by little everyday.
The question is where does it stop?
Does anybody really want the government to run there lives and tell them where to shop, what to buy and what make and color of car to buy. I honestly don't think so, but that is where we are headed. The ammo like I said was a metaphor for freedom, the concern I have is when and where does it stop.
There is no finish line for the government.
To the best of my knowledge both at the local, state and federal level no one lawmaker has ever taken a law off the books. We just get more and more laws that are more and more complicated. We need some lawbreakers to start pruning a bloated blotter of laws some of which have been on the books for over one hundred years.
Just looking at the taxation system we have now and you can see just how stupid it is to just keep piling new regulations and laws on top of existing laws that are just too complex.
Apple has been so successful as a company because makes complex things simple. The government on the other hand takes things that should be simple and makes them extremely complex. I don't think the IRS totally understands the complexity of its own tax code and certainly no normal tax paying US citizen understands the tax code.
Let's get back to what made America great and that is innovation, creating great things and a unfettered freedom and enthusiasm for life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
That's my take -
Adam
Adam, you are a true Red Blooded American and can articulate freedom and liberty very well. THANK YOU!
ADAM,
Have you checked the production and stock of the ammunition manufacturers? Production should be high and profits climbing. This story has circulated on the Internet for several years; you can solve it, destroy or prove an urban (rural?) and become a Legend yourself.
Have fun,
Scharr
Things are definitely different now... no urban legend when you can't find any ammo available at the local stores.
The contracts for the purchase of the ammunition from the GAO are available on line; this is not "heresay talk", it has also been reported on by the corporate media, including Forbes. I would post the URL but I am not sure that is allowed here.
I would ask what in God's name does "Homeland Security" need with 1.6 billion (that is correct, 1600 million) rounds of ammunition? This is literally enough ammo to fight a large war for years. Is the Federal government planning on fighting one here in the US using a Gestapo like agency, the HSA, to do so? The war obviously is going to be fought against American civilians, there is not a terrorist army about to invade.
This has happened at the same time that the Obama administration is dismantling every aspect of Constitutional law and the Bill of Rights. Sorry friends, this is preparation for tyranny, for the imposition of a police state armed with your entire personal database, which has already provided 2700 armored vehicles, machine guns and almost 2 billion rounds of ammunition to a mercenary army that is most certainly NOT CONSTITUTIONAL IN ANY WAY.
Maybe it is time to take a break from the stock market and think about what you are going to do about it before the next false flag event comes down and martial law is declared?
DHS is reporting they are using the ammunition for "target practice", but the ammunition they are purchasing is the more expensive hollow point bullets that are meant for killing.
Steve
Would you please post the URL so that I can verify the numbers you quoted.
Steve: Allow me to follow up o your post with these comments:
"The contracts for the purchase of the ammunition from the GAO are available on line;"
They are online, but they are at the FBO site, not the GAO. Apparently, you have not looked this stuff up for confirmation.
".. .it has also been reported on by the corporate media, including Forbes."
Yes, Forbes published a 3/11/13 article titled "1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security?", written by Ralph Benko, a freelance writer who normally writes about economics and apparently knows very little about guns. Mr Benko cites a February 15th article on the Denver Post as the source of his info. You should read the Denver Post article; it cites (drumroll....) Alex Jones at Infowars, who happens to be a prolific source of conspiracy theories.
"...what in God's name does "Homeland Security" need with 1.6 billion (that is correct, 1600 million) rounds of ammunition?"
I believed the 1.6 billion number for a short time until I actually did some serious research on this. DHS purchased 103 million rounds in FY 2012 and 41 million in the first 6 months of FY 2013. I now have a database of most, if not all the DHS ammo solicitations since 2004, and I m satisfied that DHS has "only" about 250 million rounds on hand, not 1.6 Billion.
Once again, Infowars is the likely source of the grossly exaggerated numbers being purchased by the DHS. Apparently they cannot read plain English and they also seem to be sorely deficient in basic mathematics.
"This is literally enough ammo to fight a large war for years."
Another uniformed comment! THe US military used 1.79 Billion rounds in s2005 (GAO report 05687 Page 9, Table 2-Look it up!) Even if the DHS bought 1.6 billion, that's about 1 year 's supply.
Sorry, but your comments do not pass on Fact Check! Post any questions you wish and I'll respond if I have an answer. If you need sources, let me know. BTW, before you do that, look up the Breitbart article, "THE GREAT DHS AMMUNITION STOCKPILE MYTH" by Tom Stilson. He did his homework and I only found one error in the entire article.
WHY WOULD YOU BELIEVE SOMTHING THE GUY WORKS AT WALMART TOLD YOU?
Better be careful about heresay talk from Walmart employees pushing your hatred of government buttons. More reputable source seem to indicate that this shortage is from high consumer demand.
I always have a hard time believing conspiracy theories and so many of them I have found to be fact over the past 4 years that what you told does not surprise me one bit. Forget the right to bare arms just buy up all the ammo. TJ "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government". Without ammo the guns will be useless.
