WEEKLY GOLD SERIES (August 27-August 31)

After three months of a painfully rangy trade, Gold Bugs were finally rewarded for their patience. Last week, after December Futures traded above $1630, the technical buy was on. Not only did the futures price test the 200 day moving average (what I suspected would be the short term target), it traded straight through before finally topping out over twenty dollars an ounce higher!  Furthermore, we begin this week with Gold printing another new high overnight.

It seemed last week that Gold prices were once again trading the fundamentals that once dictated direction. Here are a few factors that were baked into last week’s rally: Continue reading "Gold Chart of the Week"

WEEKLY GOLD SERIES (August 20-August 24)

After completing what seemed like a fairly strong week in global markets, I now look back at the daily charts for most futures and realize that overall, things were not really all that exciting. While the Treasuries quietly slipped lower day after day, and the Crude Oil and Stock Indexes maintained their upward bias, the US Dollar, the Euro Currency, and the Precious Metals were overall fairly boring. There were no real breaks above or below the ranges that we continue to be stuck in. I suppose the reason there may have been some excitement in the overall trade last week is that despite the low volume (which hit record low in some markets) there were opportunities to hold positions without fear of the intraday or overnight “stop-hunt” that we all have become so accustomed to. If traders sold Treasury or Yen Futures, or bought Crude Oil, Grains or Stock Index Futures to start the week, they had the first chance in a long time to hold out for the directional move. If traders were involved in the Dollar, Euro, Gold or Silver Futures, the same rules applied but there was much less direction to speak of. Continue reading "Gold Chart of the Week"

WEEKLY GOLD SERIES (August 13-August 17)

If Gold traders were patient throughout last week’s choppy trade, those who held long positions were rewarded on Friday with a convincing move higher. Throughout the early part of the week, we saw the Euro Currency correcting its rally from the prior week, and this action sent the US Dollar up to resistance, which ultimately kept a lid on any hope for a bounce in the Gold. Gold Market for the Week of August 6

If ever there were a week for traders to be excited about a directional move in global markets it should have come last week. Leading up to last week's news, markets finished strong in anticipation of favorable news from multiple central banks, most importantly the United States and the ECB. Mario Draghi released a statement suggesting he would take any and all measures necessary to protect the Euro, and his statements were later Continue reading "Chart of the Week"

TRADING GOLD THIS WEEK

After a strong finish last week, most of the major markets begin the week looking a bit sluggish. The lack of follow through buying should have been expected as we enter a week choked full of very important reports and economic policy decisions. Continue reading "Chart of the Week - Gold"
