Dead Cat Bounce

Hello MarketClub members everywhere. I am sticking out my neck today and calling today's overnight rally a "dead cat bounce." This type of rally is not a reversal, it is more of a correction for a very oversold condition in the equity markets.

If we have any cat lovers out there my apologies go to you, but I have to admit I do love the expression "dead cat bounce." I'm not sure where the expression came from, but it seems to fit the markets perfectly.

MarketClub's Mid-day Market Report

Indices & Stocks: Make no mistake about it, the dramatic Brexit slide in the markets worldwide has had a profound effect both technically and psychologically on the markets. The major indices and many stocks appear to have put in tops that are capable of moving to some of the Fibonacci levels I outlined in yesterday's video. Continue reading "Dead Cat Bounce"

Brexit: The Pound Will Survive, The Euro Will Not

Lior Alkalay - INO.com Contributor - Forex

Friday, June 24th will be remembered as a Black Day for the British Pound. On that day, investors, shocked by the “leave” vote for Brexit, pushed the Pound off a cliff, toward its worst daily loss since 1985. And yet, despite the Pound being at the eye of the storm after the Brexit vote, it’s not the Pound’s future that investors should fear.

Brexit Impact On The Pound Sterling

The impact Brexit will have on the Pound should be divided into two ranges—short to mid-term and long-term.

In the short to mid-term, it’s undeniable that the Pound will face significant and broad pressures—monetarily, fiscally and economically. The Bank of England will likely need to deploy extra liquidity measures to assure stability in the financial system which, effectively, is monetary easing. From a political standpoint, uncertainty has increased dramatically. On Friday, the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, resigned, and his “heir apparent” is still unclear. But even more, troubling is the future of Scotland within the United Kingdom. The Scots will be compelled to cast another vote, this time on their willingness to leave the United Kingdom and stay with the European Union. Weekly Futures Recap With Mike Seery

Crude Oil Futures

Crude oil futures in the August contract settled last Friday in New York at 48.56 a barrel while currently trading at 47.71 down about $1 for the trading week while selling off $2.50 this Friday afternoon. The U.S dollar is up over 200 points putting pressure on oil and the commodity sector as a whole. Crude oil prices are trading below their 20 day but still above their 100-day moving average telling you that the short-term trend is mixed as I’m currently sitting on the sidelines looking for a possible short entry in next week’s trade. Crude prices are retesting last week’s low as a possible top has been created as the Brexit situation is spooking many different markets including stock markets around the world as demand could start to wane over the next several months. The commodity markets do not like uncertainty and no one really knows how this Brexit situation will develop, but I always look at risk/reward scenarios as I do think prices may have topped out in the short-term so be patient and wait for the entry criteria to come about. It's Official, They Exit! Risk Aversion Chronicles: Gold Leads The Safety Demand!

Today is a historic day in World financial history, which will be recorded in our memory forever! And it was a long and sleepless night all over the world as financial markets were frozen in agonizing suspense.

We should admit that Britons are firm and consecutive in pursuing their goal of independence. Almost a quarter century ago, they decided to withdraw their currency from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) and they didn’t turn off their road yesterday on the final referendum.

Bookies and analysts got it all wrong as they forecasted the win of the "STAY” option, but more and more we have witnessed that all efforts to calculate human emotions and perceptions fail. The economic consequences for Brexit are harmful to the UK in a short term, but they still voted to leave. People are irrational in their behavior and the realization of this fact would bring the dramatic changes in the economic science in the future. Continue reading "It's Official, They Exit! See EU Later - Brexit is for Real

Hello MarketClub members everywhere! The votes are counted and almost everyone got this one wrong, including the British betting shops. It's official - England is leaving the EU after 43 years.

I guess I was in the right camp when I posted this on June 14th.

The early reaction was the British Pound falling to its lowest levels since 1985 and stock markets around the world crashing. The one bright spot was the rush into gold which once again shot up over the $1300 level and seems poised to move to the $1400 level.

Indices: Looking at the major indices here in the U.S. this morning they are all going to be sharply lower and under pressure. Continue reading "See EU Later - Brexit is for Real"
