Apple's Killer New Strategy And Why Everyone Missed It

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Thursday, the 24th of October.

Earlier this week, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled its new lineup of iPads and Macs that are going to push it into the fourth quarter. One key in the presentation that most observers might have missed while focusing on the products, was the fact that Apple intends to include and provide free software like Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand. These software programs are first class and represent some of the company's crown jewels. It's Apple's new strategy to bring more and more new users into Apple's ecosystem. Once in, it is hard to get out and Apple has you for life.

This strategy reminds me of King Gillette, of Gillette shaving and razors. King Gillette's strategy was simple, give away the razor and I will sell you the high-profit razor blades. In Apple's case, the software is the razor, the iPad, iPhone, the Mac and all of the other Apple hardware pieces are the razor blades. Not a bad strategy for Apple in the tablet wars. Showtime For Apple

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Tuesday, the 22nd of October.

Today at 10am PT/1pm ET, it's showtime for Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. In previous years, there has been an air of mystery about what surprises Apple has for the market. This year however, most of the news has been spilled and the world will be looking for new iPads with retina displays, improvements in the Mac line and possibly more information on Maverick, Apple's new operating system for the desktop and laptop world.

As always, Apple teases us with a slogan, and this year is no different as the slogan that's draped around the Yerba Buena Center reads, "We Still Have a Lot to Cover." What exactly that means remains to be seen. That air of the next big thing is one of the reasons Apple events are so intriguing to the world.

In addition to analyzing Apple, I will also be looking at the major indices, crude oil, gold, and the US dollar.

I always appreciate your comments and feedback, so please feel free to leave them on this blog, along with any questions you might have for us.

Have a great trading day,

AAPL, NFLX, FB, YELP, all in today's update

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Monday, the 21st of October.

In today's report, I will be covering many of the major markets that have been pushing the indices to new highs.

I'll start with Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), who is rolling out new products tomorrow at 10am PT/1pm ET at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center. The slogan for the Apple roll out is, "we still have a lot to cover," so it should be a market mover.

I will also be looking at Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), which has turned out to be a big winner for us this year. Netflix is reporting earnings today after the bell. Continue reading "AAPL, NFLX, FB, YELP, all in today's update"

Disaster Averted, Fast Forward To January 15th

Hello traders everywhere! Adam Hewison here, President of INO.com and Co-creator of MarketClub, with your mid-day market update for Thursday, the 17th of October.

Late last night the United States averted what would've been a disaster for the country. But did we really avert disaster, or did they just "kick the can down the road"? I had the good fortune to appear on CNBC Asia last night when this historic vote was cast. If you missed my appearance, you can see what I said right here.

While Washington politicians are patting themselves on the back and thinking about what a good job they did, most folks in the real world have a different view and are incredibly angry at what Washington is doing. It really doesn't matter if you are on the left or the right of the political spectrum, the divisiveness in the country is not healthy for the economy and the stock market in the long run. Insurance in Wonderland

The following is excerpted from the October 13 edition of Notes From the Rabbit Hole.  The segment followed a review of NFTRH's big picture stance on gold vs. various assets positively correlated to the global economy.  Specifically, the previous segment concluded that yes, the NFTRH big secular view is under threat by a technical analysis signal favoring US stocks over gold on the big picture per this monthly chart of SPX-Gold.  NFTRH first began managing this as the bottoming pattern broke above its neckline and then the EMA 10 crossed above the EMA 20 for the first time since 2001.
