It's Not Over…

I believe that the "dead cat bounce" I discussed last week has occurred with the market action seen late last week. Many of the major indices have rallied back to their Fibonacci resistance levels which should hold the markets' upward momentum, at least in the short term.

If you're not familiar with our Fibonacci tool, you can learn about it right here.

Another big negative for the markets is that many of the world indices had their worst month in three years. Unless there is a miracle today, it would appear as though the month of August is going to go into the minus column for the Dow, S&P 500 and NASDAQ.

There is an old trading maxim which you may have heard, "don't try to catch a falling knife," that should be every investors' mantra for September.

One of the problems overhanging the market right now has to be the Fed and if they are going to raise interest rates in September. This uncertainty is not a good thing for the market and it would appear as though the Fed and the rest of the Central Banks are pretty much out of bullets in terms of helping the economy and the markets. 3 Ways to Identify Support and Resistance - 5 Chart Examples

By: Elliott Wave International

Today's lesson considers three ways to identify price support and resistance in the markets you trade.

  1. Previous highs and lows
  2. Trendline support
  3. Fibonacci Ratios

These examples are adapted from Jeffrey Kennedy's Trader's Classroom service.

1) Uptrends terminate at resistance while downtrends terminate at support. Previous highs and lows often act as resistance and support.

In ALCOA Inc (AA), the September 2012 selloff found support near the previous July 2012 low.

The February 2013 peak occurred following a test of resistance at the January peak at $9.33. Continue reading "3 Ways to Identify Support and Resistance - 5 Chart Examples"

Gold Update: Total Recast

Aibek Burabayev - INO.com Contributor - Metals

Dear INO.com readers,

Today Gold hit the $1300 level and I updated my chart for Gold, as it was price trigger for my previous bearish scenario.

In my first article last December I charted the line graph for Gold with a descending triangle pattern detected on this metal. My projection for the mentioned pattern was bearish with quite bold target levels.

What is up today?

The main rule for success is to not to be biased and always challenge yourself with making a brand new analysis from time to time, and surely when market is not going your way.

Today I prepared an absolutely new Gold graph to put fresh eye on it, now with candlesticks.

Gold Chart, small and big wedge chart patterns.

This time I detected a very interesting chart pattern called the “wedge.” This type of patterns is outstanding as it has an ambiguous impact on the market with either a continued or reversed outcome. Luckily, we have two wedges on the same time frame at once. Both are the falling wedge type because of the descending highs and lows. The big one is highlighted in green and the small is in black. Apart from it, we have two more rare technical species on the chart. Continue reading "Gold Update: Total Recast"
